4-H Program & Club Charter
At Safe Haven Youth Ranch, we integrate the 4-H Program Model into our holistic approach to youth development, creating a supportive environment where young people learn, grow, and thrive. Through experiential learning, youth engage their head, heart, and hands—building critical thinking skills, fostering empathy and belonging, and developing practical abilities through hands-on projects in agriculture, science, technology, and the arts. We emphasize healthy living by promoting nutrition, physical fitness, and overall wellness, while also encouraging leadership, mentorship, and community service. By empowering youth to take on meaningful roles within the ranch and beyond, the 4-H Program at Safe Haven helps shape confident, compassionate, and capable leaders for the future.
The 4-H Program Model
In 2020, Safe Haven Youth Ranch proudly established its own 4-H club chapter through a partnership with the Waller County, Texas Agri-Life Extension Office, providing essential leadership, training, and support to our staff, volunteers, and youth. Guided by the Texas 4-H Youth Development Program, overseen by Prairie View A&M Agri-Life Extension Service, our youth engage in a rich curriculum spanning citizenship, leadership, nutrition, healthy lifestyles, veterinary science, mechanics, technology, horticulture, agriculture, and more. Through hands-on, learn-by-doing experiences, youth build physical, mental, social, emotional, and vocational skills while navigating their healing journey from childhood trauma. By fostering independence and equipping young people with practical knowledge and confidence, the 4-H program plays a vital role in the holistic growth and lifelong success of the youth at Safe Haven Youth Ranch.
Our Club Chapter
At Safe Haven Youth Ranch, the cornerstone of our program lies in the 4-H projects that each youth selects based on their interests and abilities. These projects involve setting goals and evaluating progress, fostering a sense of accountability and achievement. The skills and knowledge acquired through 4-H projects empower youth to become more engaged individuals and responsible citizens, equipping them with valuable tools for personal growth and development.
